PUBLIC NOTICE TO RESIDENTS

Dear Stanton Residents,

The City of Stanton is committed to providing safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible wastewater services to our community.

​

Earlier this year, the Mayor's Office and Stanton City Council were notified of a substantial increase in wastewater treatment costs from the Red River Wastewater Authority, the regional commission that provides wastewater treatment services for Stanton, Clay City, and Powell County. Red River was established through a partnership between these local governments to provide wastewater services efficiently and cost-effectively for the region.

Following notification of the increase, City officials worked closely with representatives of the Red River Wastewater Authority to explore alternatives and minimize the impact on our customers. Through these efforts, the City was able to reduce the immediate effect of the proposed increase while continuing to ensure the financial stability of the wastewater system.

As a result, a sewer rate adjustment will take effect beginning in July 2026. This adjustment is necessary to address increased wastewater treatment costs, rising operational expenses, ongoing maintenance needs, and required infrastructure improvements. The adjustment will help ensure:

• Safe and reliable wastewater service for all customers
• Maintenance and replacement of aging infrastructure
• Compliance with state and federal environmental regulations
• Long-term sustainability of the wastewater system
• Continued investment in improvements that protect public health and the environment

The Mayor and Stanton City Council remain committed to keeping utility rates as affordable as possible while maintaining the quality and reliability of essential services. In addition, the city and its regional partners continue to pursue grant funding and other opportunities to offset costs and reduce the burden on ratepayers.
